Year-Round Tax Planning · Jasper, GA & beyond
Tax preparation records what already happened. Tax planning changes what happens next. We work on your tax position all year — not in a scramble every April.
By the time a return is being prepared, almost every decision that drives the tax bill has already been made: how the business is structured, how the owner is paid, when the new truck was bought, whether retirement contributions were set up. A preparer can only report those choices.
Tax Pilot's founder spent years in corporate tax at Grant Thornton and UPS, working on planning for companies with billions in revenue. We bring that same proactive approach to contractors and service businesses — reviewing your numbers through the year and making moves while they still count.

Federal and Georgia estimates calculated from real numbers, with reminders before each due date.

From a Tax Pilot client
“He makes tax season so much less stressful — keeps me organized, reminds me of due dates, and finds the deductions I'm eligible for as a small business owner.”
Questions
Tax preparation is filing your return based on what already happened. Tax planning is the work done during the year — structure, timing, compensation and deductions — that determines what that return will show.
It depends on your profit, how much you'd need to pay yourself as a reasonable salary, and your state situation. For many profitable trade businesses an S-corp election can reduce self-employment tax, but it adds payroll and filing costs. We run the numbers for your situation before recommending it.
Sometimes — but only if you needed the truck anyway. Large year-end purchases can create deductions, but spending a dollar to save a fraction of it in taxes isn't a strategy. We'll model the real after-tax cost before you sign anything.
Yes. We calculate federal and state estimated payments from your actual books each quarter and remind you before the deadlines.
Yes. Reviewing prior returns is often the first thing we do — it's common to find missed deductions, depreciation errors or an entity structure that no longer fits.

Who you'll work with
Peyton Witt, CPA, built his career at Grant Thornton and on UPS's corporate tax team, working on Fortune 500 companies with billions in revenue. When he started helping small business owners on the side, he found nearly every return he reviewed was wrong.
He started Tax Pilot to give contractors and trade businesses the same level of expertise big companies get — from someone who actually understands their world.
